Olivia with her cousin, Julia, looking at a dollhouse.

We are having a hard time deciding what to put on Olivia’s Christmas list.  She has more toys than she knows what to do with.  And, she is not yet to the point where she’ll tell you what she wants.  We even took her to Target today to see what interested her.  A lot of the things that peaked her interest were things that she already has.  I can’t say that I’m in a rush to get to the “I want” stage, but I wish she could give us a few hints.  Santa is going to have a tough time this year. :)  Her main interests right now are watching Dora and LeapFrog DVDs, coloring, Veggie Tales, books, music, dollhouses, trains and whatever the toy of the day is.  That could be anything from the Chipmunks (from a McDonald’s Happy Meal) her Laugh and Learn purse (that I stashed away because I thought she’d outgrown it) or her My Little Pony car.  She isn’t showing a lot of interest in baby dolls or princesses, which dominate the 3 year old market.  I’m sure we’ll come up with some ideas, but if you have any that your 3 year old LOVES, I’d love to hear from you.  I’m especially interested in all of the Tag Junior, VReaders, Leapfrog Explorers, MobiGoTouch, Fisher Price iXL etc.  Boy, there’s a lot out there and I have no idea if Olivia would like any of it.  There are also quite a few highly ranked Nintendo DS games targeted for preschoolers. . .and I already have a pink DS that I never use.  Oh, and there’s that Playskool Alphie robot.  He looks kinda cool.  It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. . . .yikes!

Jodi, in all the years we've been buying presents, it's almost always the gift that they don't ask for that is the most memorable and most loved. We've also learned that while YOU want to branch out to other toys, your child would generally rather add to a collection they already have. She might like some different train track pieces or trains for example. We change our track layout at least once a month to keep it interesting. I know that Olivia plays with different trains everytime she's here. Although I can tell you that Lady is one of her favorites.

Be thankful that Olivia hasn't started with the "I wants". Because Kaleb has older siblings, he hears it from them. He's already told us that he wants a new DSi and Super Mario Bros. for Christmas. Thanks AGAIN Ryan for getting them started!!! Haha!

This is an idea I heard that I think we are going to start very soon before our kids get TOO many things and expect tons of toys... Jesus got 3 gifts from the 3 wisemen, so we may do that from the parents (I know Grandparents don't count :-) I've also heard of giving like pjs on Christmas eve, slippers, etc starting a tradition of some "real" presents along with the toys. Our kids have always loved the simple toys the best, different scissors, art projects, balls, etc

I loved Alphie when I was a kid, of course I had one 30+ years ago. My son realy loved his Fisher Price fun to learn computer. It teaches letters, number and using a mouse in very fun ways! I highly recommend that laptop, plus it is very durable and I just saw that it comes in pink!

Conner is getting Alphie...I remember playing with it when I was a kid. We are looking in to one of those "game" type things like the Mobigo or iXL too. just don't know which would be better.
