I don’t have any pictures to post today, so I thought I would post a pre-Olivia picture of mommy, daddy and the Grinch. This was taken a few years ago on our trip to Universal Studios.
It’s kind of sad that Olivia is outgrowing a lot of her first sleepers. . .her ‘Baby’s First Christmas,’ her yellow giraffe one, etc. I never thought I’d see the day, but I’m thrilled that she continues to grow and thrive. She’s really starting to smile and interact with us and she’s even shown a preference for certain toys. Tomorrow she has another pediatrician appt and has to get her 4 month vaccinations. I think that babies that have been through as much as Olivia should never have to be poked or prodded ever again. She should hopefully get her Synagis shot tomorrow as she is a week overdue. Maybe someone could explain to me how this works, but it’s taking forever to get approval for it. I’m getting really frustrated. . .she was born at 23 weeks!! What is there to think about? Anyway, please be thinking about her tomorrow and pray she has another good weight gain for us.

It is frustrating to wait forever about the RSV shot. It does take quite awhile to get approval, but we are well into RSV season and she should be able to get the shot by now. If I've learned anything from having a micropreemie, it's that you have to be the advocate for your child. Keep calling and asking questions all the time! Olivia should definitely qualify for the shot and whatever isn't covered by your insurance should be covered by Medicaid since she should have also automatically qualified for that because of her birthweight. (The shot is super expensive-- can be around $1500 to $3000, depending on the baby's weight, and that's part of the reason it takes so long to get approved)
Also, check to see if you can get an in-home nursing agency to administer the shot in your own home. This usually can get covered just as easily and that way you don't have to worry as much about getting the shot late and you don't have to expose Olivia to the dreaded dr waiting rooms full of germs.
Well, that's all I know about it. Hope it helps and that she can get the shot soon! Won't we be glad when spring is finally here?!

I too have to advocate for mty 23 weekers. This year I called about beginning their shot in oct. I was told by pedi that the approval didn't come yet and there first shot would be Nov. this didn't sit well with me, so i called my insurance to give them a piece of my mind; this was especially important for me to do since I had called my pulmonologist in oct and asked if they'd seen RSV yet in our area and they said yes. My insurance said, it has been covered, it has been approved since Oct 12th or something. I called pedi right back and said "excuse me we've been approved for this month,. you can call this number to speak to my insurance yourself." Of course we had an appointment for their first shot that week...in October when it should be done in our area.
Because Olivia came home in the middle of RSV season, did she have her first shot in the NICU right before discharge?...that's what our NICu did and therefore things were all set for the next month at the pedi's office.
Olivia is clearly eligible for Synagis and hopefully this will get cleared up soon. I'd call the insurance and find out what the issue is. Good luck!!!
I got to see my new cousin, Olivia, today for the first time. She was 19 1/2 inches she was really pretty! I just thought it was ironic that now I have a cousin, Olivia. I'm excited!
I also have been fiddling around with our computer that now the blog is my homepage! I have tested it out and everything works great! Except again those parental controls have blocked the pictures again so, that'll be fixed before long.
I'm glad that Livi is gaining weight and that she is out-growing her outfits, I know it must be bittersweet.
Love you all!
Stay Strong,
Shea♥
Yay! My dad fixed it! I can see all the pictures!
That mean ol' Grinch!
