Monday, July 7, 2008 - Update

Just a quick story with dad before church. . .
Olivia had her 10 month checkup this afternoon. Her hemoglobin was normal, so we finally get to discontinue the Poly-Vi-Sol. She weighed 14 lbs 9 oz and was 24 3/4 in long. (Last time she was 25 1/4 in. long. . hmmm.) Her head circumference was 41.5 cm. She remains in the 25-50% on the preemie chart. I was so happy to tell him that she was finally rolling over. We're still working with her on arm position and on learning to sit unassisted.

I've been trying to figure out what to get Olivia for her 1st birthday. Remember that she'll be 12 months old, but her adjusted age is only 8 months. So, I thought I would ask all of you for ideas. Do you know of a certain toy that your 8-12+ month old absolutely LOVED? I already have a few ideas, but I would love to hear from all of you.

Now, I'll get back to stuffing my face with puppy chow. I had an overwhelming craving for it last night and decided to make some. I've recently found that I get headaches from too much chocolate, so not only did I get a stomach ache from it. . .my head hurt as well. Yet, I continue to eat it because it's so good.

Glad to hear that Livi's check-up went well. I hope her arms will start to cooperate, she's so goofy.

I HAD to leave my two-cents worth on the toys since we have owned nearly every girly toy imaginable :)
We got Ellie a Discover Sounds Kitchen from little tikes for her first christmas. She would have been 8 months old then and she absolutly LOVED it! She played with it nearly every day until we got her a bigger kitchen a few years later. They don't make it anymore but Fisher Price has a laugh and learn kitchen for the same age range that looks even cooler than the one we had. Actually it came out of storage when we were getting the baby stuff out, and Ellie has been sneaking in Kailey's room to play with it again!
The other big hit was Little People-we had an entire village of them, but her favorite was the house and the zoo. And Peek-a-Blocks, which she had the big Incrediblock and dozens of the blocks. Those were also toys that had to be hidden to make room for more "big girl" stuff :)

Yum! I loooove puppy chow! That stuff is the bomb-diggity. Can't wait to see her roll over. And see her get baptized. Um...did you tell your church to expect some extra people that Sunday?? As far as the shrinking goes...She must have been stretching her toes out the last time she got measured!!

I can't remember what Claire played with when she was 8-9 months old. I do know that she started getting Little People toys around that age. Since Olivia likes toys that make music/sounds she would probably like them a lot. Claire has the house and Noah's Ark. She still plays with them and she is almost 5. Any of the Laugh and Learn toys by Fisher Price are a good bet. My kids have always like those.

Ellie loved (and still does) the Fisher Price piano that lights up and plays songs. It is probably the best toy investment we have ever made! You really can't go wrong with any of the Light/Sound toys from Fisher Price...

I can't remember the exact name but I think it is the leapfrog learning table that brooke liked-- has a lot of functions, music, lights, etc. you can take it off it's legs and have it be a floor toy, and then it's legs are short and squaty and they can pull themselves up on it. It actually was instrumental in getting her to walk (she didn't walk till 15 months!). We'd have her stand at the couch with it in the middle of the room- and we'd hide cheerios in this little compartment, and she'd finally walk from the couch to the table to get her cheerios! But we were playing with it by about 9 months I think. Fun fun!

I love puppy chow. I have to ask- did you see Kate on "John and Kate plus 8" making it last week? I did and I ended up making it this weekend too!!! On that show- they call it "Monkey Munch" which I decided was a much funner name for it.... so I'm retraining our house to call it that! Oh and I threw some pretzels in ours this weekend (before I dumped in the chocolate, etc) and they were super yummy in it too!

Glad olivia likes prunes. The only way I get prunes is by drinking dr pepper-- haha :)

I think the power of suggestion is amazing- just since you wrote puppy chow... everyone is going "mmmm.. that DOES sound good" lol...I think I'll go out and get the stuff to make it right now:) Glad to see Olivia is doing so good.... she is so cute! My Nathan will be 1 on Aug.9th. I just ordered all his "1" stuff for the party- having a boy, I dont have much advice on the girl toy thing..:).. sorry... hope you pick something good!
