Look at what my mom and dad got me!
It's only the most fun EVER!

While Ryan and I were out shopping today, we picked up the Rainforest Jumperoo for Olivia. I went against most physical therapists who do not recommend them for these various reasons.
They believe it's bad for their hip and back development and can predispose them to walk on their toes. I would think this would be especially worrisome for preemies as problems with muscle tone are a big concern. Is it sometimes possible to do too much research and know too much? Anyway, so why did I get it for her, you ask? It just looks like so much fun! I knew that Olivia would love something like this as she loves to stand! I can't help but believe that it's one of those things that are fine in moderation. I'm not going to leave her in it for hours at a time. I don't see why 15-20 minutes a day would be harmful. . .

It does look like fun! They also have a horse/cowboy themed one that is really cute... Keith is a BRU manager and I have to admit that it's tempting sometimes.
We were told to not even let Sydney stand in our laps if we could avoid it unless we were actively working on making her stand correctly. She's now walking great and still has issues with how she stands, so I'm glad we followed the recommendations. But Sydney had pretty high tone...I know if they have low tone, the recommendations can be different. (I don't know where Olivia falls).
I agree, it should be ok in moderation. Our therapists told us that it's ok as long as it's short periods of time. And they suggested putting a tie of some sort at the leg openings to help keep them from getting the "bow-legged" stuff. Have fun!! Olivia looks like she is getting to be more fun every day.
We have 3 kids that have jumped in these types of toys, and they are perfectly fine. I think that sometimes there is too much research for everyone's good!
She looks like she is having a blast!!
Ohh! I can't believe you bought that one! I have been planning on buying that for Jade since before she was born! That is so awesome. We are waiting till she can hold her head up on her own and I will be going out and buying it right away...hehe. I've almost bought it like 40 times now, but keep holding off till she is big enough.
Don't read too much into what therapists say...that only applies to people who use it like babysitters...I plan to let her play in it each day for about 30 minutes tops.
I had a jumper when I was a kid and can walk just fine.

I think it's fine too, in moderation. Hallie used hers a bit--not as much as we expected, really--but we'd have been okay with more usage. I think it's important to gauge how Olivia's tone looks. If she seems tight, I'd avoid using it much, but if she seems fine, go ahead and indulge her.
