It's electric!
Boogie woogie woogie

In all seriousness, I think Olivia has been plugged into, like, 1000 amps. She is going non-stop. Last week, she decided that she would start getting up an hour earlier. Okay. . .it's bound to happen. Then, she decided that she didn't need a nap at all. Yesterday, she only slept for 20 minutes all day and today there are no signs of a nap in the near future. In addition, she doesn't want to sleep through the night and woke up three times last night. Ryan and I have no problem letting her "cry it out." (Well, it's a bit harder for me, but I know it's what is best.) Usually, she only cries for 10-15 minutes and is back asleep. Now that she is able to pull herself up in her crib, it's a bit harder. She stands up and screams at the top of her lungs. I don't think she really knows how to sit back down so it's not like she can go right back to sleep. Last night, she cried for almost 30 minutes (with no sign of stopping) when I went in to get her. Help! Is this just a phase? Now that she can stand up on her own, it's as if she doesn't feel the need to lay down. I used to be able to put her down for her nap and she would lay there (sometimes cry for just a bit) until she fell quickly to sleep. Now, she just stands up and screams. It's getting increasingly difficult to contain this bundle of energy within the confines of our house. Not to mention. . .I'm growing increasingly more and more cranky!

Ryan- You are a softie-you'll never last :) You daddies are suckers for your baby girls :)

Jodi-It's a phase, one that seems to come and go with some kiddos. Ellie went through the same thing, and it'll get better. No magic to fix it, just time and consistency. We'd let Ellie cry it out usually. We mommies know when the cry is sad/scared/hurt, and when the cry is "I cannot believe you people would dare to confine me here!" She's just letting you know that she's a big girl now!

Yes, her cry is definitely an "I'm so angry, I can't stand it" kind of cry.

Emery started to sleep less just before he started walking. It was like he wanted to be out practicing on walking all*the*time! He did become more willing to sleep when he started walking, but he still thinks that 3 a.m. is party time.

If she starts looking overly tired with dark circles and her disposition changes significantly as well as her eating being drastically affected, then I'd call the doctor. I have no idea what they would say, but it might reassure you.

I bought the Supernanny book, (I know I am crazy) but she calls it the Controlled Crying Technique. I have tried it and it worked for us. Each time Oliva crys you reassure her with your presence, but you double the intervals between your responces to teach her to stop crying for attention and that it is time to go to sleep. You have to make sure she is crying for attention though. SHe says that if you pick them up and they stop crying that is probably an attention cry. After she has cried for a little while, go to her. Soothe her with a comforting sound - no words - and gently rub her back. Do not make eye contact, which will stimulate her into full wakefullness. Keep the lights off. You are showing her it is still nighttime. Keep doubling the interval each time she wakes. I took this from the book. I don't know if it will work for you but this is what we did. I just got sick of getting them a bottle each time they woke up. It took about an hour the first time but they eventually got the picture!

If you scroll down her page to her 'greatest hits' section, she has a great article about sleep regressions that ALWAYS makes me feel better when I read it.
