Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - Update

We borrowed this adorable Spin and Explore ladybug mat from Izzy. Apparently, she didn't like it. . .Olivia doesn't either. This would be a great tool to get Olivia to support herself with her arms, but as you can tell, she still manages not to use them. I think it would be tough to hold yourself up like that. Maybe that's why she doesn't like it. Anyway, I put her on it and then went and grabbed my camera (so that you can see what I'm talking about.) She started crying and I went to pick her up. When she saw the camera, however, she managed to grin. I took her picture. She cried again, saw the orange light on the camera. . grinned again. I think that she has learned (after 3000+ pictures)that the camera = smiles. And they were totally fake smiles because she wasn't happy at all.

She's awesome at fake smiles though isn't she? Well, I guess she'll learn to use her arms one way or another, just not on anyone else's terms but her own, eh?

I hope you're having a good week so far. I'm leaving for Texas with my family on Thursday. It's my grandparents 60th anniversary and all the cousins will be there together. It should be a good time. Talk to you soon!

Kinnick does the same thing with her arms. We've tried everything to get her to put her hands together. She puts them together to play with a toy, but as soon as she drops the toys, the hands go out and back. I thought it was due to her poor vision.

Has anyone suggested infant massage to help with her arms? I'm curious about it. Our McKids program (like your Rainbows) is starting to train parents and I think it has the potential to be helpful but who knows?!
