When We Were Babies

Ryan and I were both chubby babies (although I won in the 4 month category at 17 lbs.) So, I figured we'd have at least one chubby child. Here we are as babies. :-)
Ryan

And here are some of me

So, what do you think? Who does Olivia and Abigail resemble the most?

Eye Color

I recently read that your eye color is determined by 9 months of age.  Haha!  This is Olivia when she was three years old.

We thought she would keep her hazel eyes like daddy, but they are most definitely brown now.

Just wondering. . .what color are your childrens’ eyes and did they change color after 9 months of age?

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

I never bought into the Crocs or the Ugg boots, but yesterday I bought my first pair of Toms. You know you're a mom when an hour of free time and shoe shopping is a big deal. I really like them and I can change the appearance by the color of hidden socks that I'm wearing.

That's about the only positive thing that has happened this week. I've had endocrinologist appointments, a thyroid sonogram, fought with insurance to get the help needed for Olivia ( more about that later) and wondered how in the world Olivia's Prevacid costs $60 when we have never paid over $35 for any prescription. Oh, why can't things be simpler?? :-)

I just wanna watch Olivia draw monsters all day!

Tax Day Is No Laughing Matter

This was the title of my blog post on April 15, 2008 because it was the first day that Olivia laughed.  She had not even chuckled before this day and all of the sudden. . .it was a belly laugh and the most beautiful sound we had ever heard.

http://loganssisters.gluntfamily.com/2008/04/tax-day-is-no-laughing-matter-olivia.html

Today on April 15, 2013, Abigail belly laughed for the first time.  She has had a few chuckles here and there, but never a belly laugh.  Both were during a game of peek-a-boo.  The only difference is that we got Olivia’s on video.  By the time I grabbed the camera, Abigail just stared at me.  LOL!  Yep, I have one child who is a bit camera shy and another (ahem, Olivia) who is not!  But, here is a picture of Abigail’s smiling face.

It was pretty fun day today. We took the girls to the park. Olivia had fun, but she slid out of the swing and landed on her back. She didn't even cry. Just dusted herself off and did something else. That girl is so tough, because it looked like it really hurt. Thank goodness for sand, I guess. Abigail slept through most of it, which is fine because she doesn't like her stroller much.

My happy girl! She loves sweet potatoes and ate the whole jar. I don't think I'm supposed to let her eat the whole thing at this age, but she loved it!

More mama, more!!

Also, at bath time tonight, I filled a muffin tin with shaving cream and dyed it with food coloring. Then, I let Olivia paint all over the tub. She absolutely loved it!!

Olivia has also been working really hard at writing her letters and spelling words! I'm so proud of her!

This has been a week of new experiences for Abigail. She got her first taste of baby food and she's in love with squash and carrots! Seriously, this girl loves food and gets so excited when she simply sees her bib. We also brought up some old toys from storage including the jumparoo. Abigail doesn't really jump in it, but she loved to stand in it and play with the toys. And Olivia thought she needed to play in it again too. LOL! A little tall for it, Olivia.

Ice Ice Baby

We are having some crazy weather this month. Last night we were under a severe thunderstorm watch with a winter weather advisory. Temps were 70+ yesterday and 32 today.

Lots and lots of ice and downed trees everywhere. Thankfully the roads were okay to get Olivia to school. But, I thought I had packed the winter clothes away for the last time. Nope.

She's not so happy right now as we have lost power about 10 times today. She's trying to nap in her swing and it keeps quitting on her. She doesn't like when the music stops.

On Monday, we were eating Popsicles outside! Ugh. Winter is never ending this year. Hope you are all staying warm. How is the weather where YOU live today?

Picture Day

Today was picture day at preschool. Olivia and I had so much fun getting ready. She let me buy her a new outfit, paint her nails, do her hair and I let her wear lipgloss. Usually Olivia does not care at all about this girly stuff, but today she was excited. And the pictures turned out GORGEOUS!! They even captured her natural smile. Can't wait to share them with you. Here are a couple I took before school.

Abigail and Olivia

Photo: This little girl loves food!

When I took this above picture of Abigail today, I had a strange sense of déjà vu.  So, I looked back through Olivia’s pictures and found out why.  They are so much alike sometimes!!  Crazy.

Here is Olivia in July 2008.

Rice Cereal

Abigail tried rice cereal for the first time today and loved it. I was only expecting her to eat a few bites, but she ate almost the whole thing. By the end she was pulling my hand up towards her open mouth. I'm not used to mealtime being a fun time, so it's a first for both of us. :-)

March for Babies 2013

Thanks to all those who donated and those who came out to walk with us. It meant a lot. Ryan's best friend from high school/college drove down from Kansas City to walk with us. Olivia enjoyed her special day and we raised over $1000.

Olivia with her brother's sign.

Thanks again!!

Rolling rolling rolling. . .

Abigail is now rolling over from tummy to back. She can roll from back to side and pretty sure she could roll onto her tummy, but she doesn't want to. Getting nervous about her mobility and baby proofing our house. Yikes!

Also, you think Abigail is chunky at 14 lbs 6 oz and 24.5 inches? At four months, I was 17 lbs and 24.5 inches. LOL!

Thursday, April 4, 2013

Olivia and I had a great afternoon together. She cashed in her piggy bank and had $51.30! Then we went shoe shopping to get some sandals for her spring preschool pictures on Monday. We stopped at the grocery store because she had been eyeing this stuffed cow for weeks. Luckily, it was still there sitting on the 50% off shelf. You'd think she would have enough stuffed animals, but she welcomes each one like family. LOL! We had kindergarten roundup this evening. Wow. Are we really there already?

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Well, at least I don't have to worry about Abigail not eating. She loves to eat as one can tell by the way she shot up on her growth curve. She's a big girl! I personally think babies need to put on all the weight they can before they start walking and becoming picky eaters. But that's coming from a mom who worries like crazy about Olivia's weight.

Bad Day

Just having one of those really hard days. Abigail started sleeping through the night at 3 months, but for the past week she has had me up every few hours. I'm sure that has added to my crankiness as I spent the whole morning yelling at Olivia. That makes me feel awful, but somedays getting her to get dressed and eat is impossible. Olivia actually weighs less than she did when she turned 5. I take it personal. . .like I'm not keeping her healthy. Now I'm waiting to take Abigail for her 4 month checkup which means more shots and a cranky baby. I've been struggling with my blood sugars again. Last night they were at an all-time high. I stopped my insulin when I gave birth and while nursing, my blood sugars have been great (another benefit of nursing.) I've been weaning her as she ONLY wants to nurse in the middle of the night and morning. I bottle feed her the rest of the time and pump during the day. But now I have to officially quit nursing so that I can get back on Metformin to control my blood sugars. It's either that or continue nursing and go back on insulin. I keep telling myself that I need to take care of myself, ya know? I'm just frustrated with myself. My lack of milk supply frustrates me, my blood sugars frustrate me, my inability to start an exercise program and stick to it frustrates me. Thanks. Just needed to vent. :-(

No More IEP

We had Olivia's IEP this morning. It's official. . .she will be entering kindergarten without any special services. My 23 weeker is keeping up with her peers! She has just flourished this year! Amazing. I thought I would share part of her preschool progress report.

Abigail was super pumped in this picture. LOL! So, we tried again when she could stay awake.

Madness

Did anyone watch the Kansas vs Michigan game last night? Funny back story. . . My friend Amanda lives in Ohio and is a huge Michigan fan. My husband went to Kansas State, which is a huge rival of Kansas (KU.) Anyway, so I texted Amanda and said Kansas plays Michigan tonight and Wichita State (my alma mater) plays Ohio State tomorrow. This is awkward. So we decided that WE would root for Michigan and THEY would throw their support towards Wichita State. It must have been our traitor-like ways that caused Kansas to lose. Yikes! I just told them not to show up in Kansas with any Michigan apparel for awhile. But at least now everyone is pulling for Wichita State!! Go Shox! They play tonight to move on to the final four!

And here's a cute pic of Abigail trying so hard to sit up. :-)

Elite 8

Headed to the Elite 8 for the first time since 1981! Go Wichita State Shockers!

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Boy, have I not updated since Monday? It's been a crazy week and we have not been home at all. I'm sooo looking forward to a day at home tomorrow. Olivia and I went and got our haircuts today with Grandma Glunt. Olivia, who used to cry when getting her hair cut, now chats it up with everyone in the salon, decides on a hairstyle and admires herself in the mirror.

Love this girl!! And I got highlights for the first time in about 2 years. I'm ready for Spring!

Monday, March 25, 2013

So, I used to have longer hair and I would cut it every now and then, but I would always grow it back out. Ever since Olivia was born, I've pretty much had short hair. She was looking at older pictures of me a few weeks ago and commented on how she really liked my longer hair. Since then she has not stopped commenting about how I need to grow my hair out. We play a game called "I Like/ I Don't Like where she tells me something she likes followed by something she doesn't like. She recently said," I like mommy with long hair. I don't like mommy with short hair. Haha! I never knew she had such a strong opinion about it. Of course, no matter what I do to my hair, I hope she doesn't expect me to look like I did in high school. Hey, I like "that mommy" a lot better too.

I'm missing Olivia and Abigail like crazy tonight. Ryan and I went to a comedy show tonight (Jim Gaffigan was in town) and they stayed the night at their grandparents' house. Ryan and I had a blast and ordered pizza at 10pm and watched tv together. But, then that horrible lonely feeling set in. Like, I needed to hear Olivia yell MOM! for the millionth time because her ice melted in her water or she couldn't find her favorite stuffed animal or her closet door wasn't shut or a cat was in her room or she just needed another hug. I think I'll just sleep with the baby monitor on because I don't think I'll be able to sleep without the static in the background. I wonder if I'll just automatically wake up at 4 am? Any time my family is not all under one roof, I get like this. It's awful. You'd think I could just enjoy a long restful night! Love my girlies!!! Mommy misses you so much! (Long haired and short haired mommy! LOL!)

Sunday, March 24, 2013

Yesterday we celebrated Ryan's birthday with his parents and today we celebrated his birthday with my parents. Two cakes! We also had a little indoor Easter egg hunt with the girls since they won't be together for Easter. I would have enjoyed my weekend a lot more, however, if I didn't have this jaw pain!! Not sure what it is, but I'm sure a trip to the dentist is in my near future.
