Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - Update

Well, I figured that I’d better send today’s update sooner than usual. I am going to be heading up to the hospital early today because Ryan and I have our CPR class tonight. Last night was like a dream. We can pull a curtain around us and it’s just the three of us in a more homelike environment. A few days ago we jokingly said, “Maybe Olivia could go to a satellite room and one of our favorite NICU nurses could come up and watch her.” That’s exactly what happened and it eased the transition from the NICU. Also, one of our favorite RTs escorted her up there and made sure she got settled. We got more exciting news when we learned that one of our other favorite nurses will be watching Olivia over the weekend!

Last night Olivia was alert and ready to try nursing again. She did wonderfully. We don’t know how much she is really getting and seems to be doing it to mainly soothe herself, but isn’t that also the point? I’m so proud of her. She continues to do well today and I can’t wait to go see her.

Congratulations, you guys! You are almost home. The move from the ICN to the SCN is a big one and the next few weeks will be both great because Olivia is growing but frustrating because you are in the home stretch and nevertheless it will seem like it's taking forever to get her home. Hang in there and know that you have an entire fan club out there who can't wait for Olivia to be home with you.

When I was up in the NICU the other day I overheard them say they were moving Miss Olivia to Special Care! I think that is wonderful!!! It seemed so empty down there without her. Well, then they told us they signed the orders for Ethan and Evan to go to Special Care. I guess I didn't think they would actually move them yet...I wanted them all to stay together. Well, I get a phone call today that our boys were also moving to Special Care. I started to cry!! I have got so comfortable with the NICU and the nurses down there. I didn't want them to be seperated from Emma. We went up there and it was a very empty place. So within a week 3 babies on Team three went to Special Care. Talk about empty...It looked weird. I was hoping our kids would be together in special care. No such luck. We are not in a satellite room...we are in the older area I think. It is still wonderful though. It is so much more peaceful and lowkey. You just pull the curtain and you have complete privacy. I am so happy Olivia is doing so well. I can't wait for the day when they sign the order for me to start breastfeeding. I don't think it is to far away. Well, we need to keep in touch. Congrats, Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
