Sunday, October 21, 2007 - Update and Prayer Request

Olivia is not doing quite as good today. It’s not that she’s doing badly. . .I think we’ve just come to expect progress from her each and everyday. Her oxygen requirements were a little higher today and she didn’t seem to enjoy being held as much. She was very squirmy and seemed pretty restless. Usually she snuggles in next to me, her oxygen stabilizes and she drifts off to sleep. Tonight she was consistently setting off the ventilator alarm. She also hasn’t been gaining weight like she should on strictly breastmilk. What you have to remember is that a premature baby expends so much energy on things like simply breathing and they usually need some supplementation. I just hope that she is able to tolerate it well.

You know, before I was pregnant and while I was pregnant, I was the epitome of healthy eating. I barely drank any caffeine, I ate my fruits and vegetables and vitamins, stayed away from fast food and trans fat. . .well, not anymore. I mean, when you don’t get out of the hospital until almost 9:00 pm and you haven’t had dinner, you don’t want to cook once you get home. We just don’t have time. We’ve discovered that you can find almost every fast food restaurant on West St. and it’s on the way home from the hospital. Someday we’ll start eating healthy again.

Please be in prayer about Olivia. We would love to see her off of the ventilator this week with lower oxygen requirements. Please pray that her eye exam goes well tomorrow and that she continues to grow stronger and bigger and healthier each day.

…I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,...
Philippians 3:13
We are all so excited about Olivia's beautiful future. What an amazing day it will be when Ryan and Jodi take their Olivia home.

Olivia is so beautiful. You have been greatly blessed. She is doing so well. I don't know what your weather is like right now, but when my son was in the NICU I remember being told that weather changes especially barometric fluctuations can really affect a preemie. These are often seen in oxygen requirements and breathing issues. For some reason as I was reading about your precious Olivia this came to mind. I will be praying for Olivia's eyes and that she will come off the ventilator this week. It sounds like she is ready! Prayerfully, Julie Stanfill

Remember that the NICU is a roller coaster ride...you have good days and bad. Hopefully this is just a little bump in the road for Olivia. I know it is hard when you just want things to go well but hang in there, Olivia is obviously a tough little girl!

I will be praying for her and hope that the eye exam goes well!

Jodi and Ryan,
I missed your blog while I was away from my internet connection; but you're all in my prayers. The previous comment about weather changes affecting Olivia make sense to me -- I know the weather makes a difference in how I'm feeling.

The new pictures are the BEST...I can see your beautiful girl better than ever before.

Love and hugs...Shelly K.

Hi Jodi,

Just wanted to check on precious Olivia. She's so cute! I'm so jealous of her low vent settings. She's doing fabulous. I think of you all often. Please know you're in my prayers. Kinnick are Carver are supposed to go home tomorrow for the first time! Wow, what a long stay in the hospital. Please watch our blog for going home pics!

Love,
Shanon

Ryan and Jodi,
Please don't think that I have forgotten your little girl, because I didn't! As most of you know I got new classes today and unfortunately it's not in a computer lab. So this was the quickest I could get to it. I will try to do better in the future.

I can't say that I know what you're going through. I do know that you are probably right when you say that it's hard to cope when she was doing so well, and then she just isn't herself. (As I interpret it.) But don't worry, as another comment said, it's just a bump in this rollar coaster ride. No matter what your feeling, or how Olivia is feeling, just know that you always have friends and family that are here for you no matter what. Love you all bukoos and bukoos.
